Set in the deep south of Spain, the thrust of the film reminds one of Graham Greene's famous quote about corruption in Nice-"A sunny place for shady people".

This well received thriller involves a bank manager, Modesto Pardos, whose bank is raided and the safe deposit boxes emptied.   When he examines the contents of one of the boxes he finds evidence regarding circumstances leading to  the death of his daughter seven years earlier.

Pardos sets out to avenge his daughter not knowing initially that he is going to be coming up against a corrupt former chief of police and a Mafia boss anxious to get back their incriminating papers.  Although feeling rather like a tele-film at times, the work stands out for its understated portrayal of a determined, professional normal person striving to achieve justice for his family.

The abuse and corruption of power are at the heart of this film which does lend it importance in terms of a universal theme.  The clarity of language is very clear and the version below has comprehensive subtitles for the hard of hearing which will help language students.   It also has a "Making of" bonus.
