Vladimir Kaminer's Russendisko, written in the early noughties, is a collection of 50 very short chapters cataloguing the experiences and impressions of Vladimir from the time of his departure from Moscow through the early days of getting used to German life right through to the point where he and his wife ask themselves why they actually came-the answer being-for fun. Now fully integrated into Berlin life and a popular broadcaster and disc jockey, Kaminer still very much gears his output to immigrants to Germany . The book Russendisko is an excellent German language learning tool with its short chapters, ironic tone and straightforward language use. With Berlin now one of the most popular cities in Europe again, this book is an excellent aid to feeling what makes the new Germany tick and as such will appeal to young internationally minded students.
