This popular hit by Gérard Jugnot of Les choristes fame was critically acclaimed for its portrayal of casual and more organised collaboration with the enemy during the German occupation. Monsieur Batignole is a butcher who lives below the flat belonging to a Jewish family. His future son in law, a writer, is anti-semitic and pro-German whilst Batignole is initially opportunistic. After the Jewish family is arrested, however, his heart strings are pulled by becoming involved with the son of the family who has escaped. Batignole from then on is transformed and intent on doing the right thing. Students will find this film very engaging, although it is just a variation on all the other films of this genre in many ways.
