3 Feedback from face-to-face training sessions and webinars

FEEDBACK FROM 2018/19 FACE TO FACE CPD SESSIONS IN SCHOOLS AND FIRST WEBINARS

In late 2017, 2018 and 2019 I have carried out many sessions in schools around England generally with about 10 delegates.   The sessions have concentrated on analysis for the cinema essay question, analysis for the literature essay question and incorporating oral work into lessons and preparing the Individual Research Project from the start of the course.

The courses are accompanied by a booklet to take away as well as all an online repository on the dolanguages site for the templates for the various exercises featured and useful links.

Trial webinar-12th February, 2019 and webinars for real 5th-7th March 2019

No et moi webinar

  • First of all I wanted to say that I really enjoyed it! I had never done such a session before, and was quite apprehensive at first.
  • I enjoyed being able to express my views in the chat function, and also to interact a bit with the other participants.
  • Your voice was very calm and clear and easy to listen to.
  • I liked that the whole session was in French.
  • I think the booklet is very comprehensive with lots of great ideas which I will definitely use with my students.

Kiffe kiffe demain webinar

1.  Thank you for an insightful and illuminating webinar commentary and presentation. I felt simultaneously inspired and reassured.

I think that the practical activities you suggest in the booklet, including grids, tables, practice titles etc., will help the students to analyse. One of the major challenges I face is the lack of group dynamic, so setting practical work always helps them to discuss the task.

2.  Thanks Steve. I really enjoyed yesterday. I felt like I was actually learning something myself which was super.

5 Tuition-literature cinema lessons for schools, direct or recorded

Experience in delivering online tuition

To find out more about No et moi lessons jump to bottom

Over the last two years we have been developing our experience in delivering webinars for teachers and have more recently branched out into lessons for students.  We use the very adaptable adobe connect platform which enables a good amount of interaction with students and are hoping to optimise the experience in combination with our online learning platform.  Some aspects of distance learning are not as rewarding as face to face learning whereas others go beyond what is possible;  it is a question of enhancing the latter to ensure that students remain engaged and learn effectively.

Test of concept

We are working with a school in Wales on delivering two one hour lessons online on the book Un secret.  Lessons will be recorded and made available to the school to share with students who were unable to attend for one reason or another.

  • Capabilities of adobe connect for delivering lessons
  • Integration with virtual learning platform such as moodle or firefly (link from relevant page)
  • Up to 100 students
  • Free download of software to laptop or app for smart phone
  • Sharing of screen, permitting joint reading of text and note taking
  • Sharing of extract of video for study of film-depending on bandwith, otherwise use of screenshots
  • Participant microphones can be enabled or disabled
  • Quiz questions can be added to test understanding or gauge reactions
  • Students can go straight to recommended websites or download files you have uploaded for them
  • Individual pages can be set up for classes of less than ten or so students so that individual written responses can be given.
  • Students can work together in break-out rooms
  • Sessions can be recorded for re-use

learning platform

Various types of work can be set through a schedule with work sent back as audio file, word file etc.
